The Layer ignition temperature test apparatus permits the determination of minimum ignition temperature of a given thickness of powder deposited on a hot surface.The method is used for the specification of the "T" temperature rating of electrical equipment for use in hazardous areas (dusty atmospheres). It is also relevant to other industrial equipment where dust is present on hot surfaces in thin layers exposed to the atmosphere and is manufactured in accordance with IEC 61241-2 and EN 50281-2-1.

Functional Specification & Deliverables

  • Layer Ignition Hotplate (1250 W / 6 A, 220 - 240 V (100 - 120 V via transformer option) single-phase. Temperature range = 0 - 400 °C
  • Remote controller unit (incorporates PID temperature control). Sample may be ramped in temperature or held isothermally
  • K-type thermocouple and extension cable for both hotplate and sample
  • 5 mm, 12.5 mm, 15 mm sample retaining rings supplied (100 mm diameter)
  • Data acquisition hardware and software
  • Acrylic sealing compound

  • 200 um sieve and catchment tray with lid
